The surface makes a direct reference and link to the enigmatic, and ancient, Scottish Towie stone sphere. A Scottish icon of power and strength. The mathematical patination captivating and channelling light as it would have been on the ancient stone.
The grain and elegance of the Scottish Burr Elm is knarly and dense, formed the unique Scottish climate. The uniform and hypnotic pattern referenced in the Towie Sphere is counterpoint to the sinuous form the tree’s natural grain. The historical references go back over years, yet the light is channelled and reflected by the pattern.
The Hownam Studio icon is embedded at the end grain of the bench.
