A unique and dramatic table for dining, crafted by hand from rare mirrored solid Scottish Chestnut. The sculptural, carved, blackened legs highlight the beauty of the chestnut's patina.
In technique and material, this unique table surpasses the finest book-matched wood, such as may be seen in premium musical instruments. This is mirrored solid wood, joined at the heart along a natural seam in the tree. Moreover, the symmetry is not slavish. Scottish Chestnut is rare wood and this was sourced from the Scottish Southern Uplands.
The Hownam Studio icon is embedded in the end grain.

The live edge of the table has been worked to a contemporary form, echoing the free form patterns of the wood. Gold gilt ties have been painstakingly inlayed to retain the shape and enrich the natural character of the wood, refracting the light along the continuous, gleaming grain pattern. The table top is supported by matching chestnut slab ends, hand-carved and darkened. The process combines burning and inking to impart lustruous enriched shades of black, heightening the beauty of the upper surface.
